چکیده

To investigate the efficacy in occluding dentin tubules of a modified calcium phosphate based solution supplemented with fluoride and zinc ions (CaP), dentine discs were separately treated with CaP and certain common desensitizing agents including potassium oxalate solution (OX), modified oxalate solutions supplemented with calcium ions (OX/Ca) or phosphate ions (OX/P) for 8 minutes, followed by occluding abilities evaluation with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). CaP showed the highest per cent of sealed dentin tubules and penetrated the most deeply into the tubules, whereas the oxalate modified and unmodified groups showed predominantly open or partially occluded tubules. OX/Ca and OX/P were more efficient in occluding dentin tubules compared with OX. Furthermore, the occluded material obtained with the experimental CaP solutions was more stable (less susceptible to acid dissolution) compared with those from experimental oxalate solutions. Thus CaP could be a new desensitizing agent in dentin hypersensitivity.

Management and Treatment of Dentin Hypersensitivity not Associated with a Significant Loss of Tooth Structure

Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is viewed by individuals as an important health problem and it is reported by the patient as a sharp pain caused by different external stimuli in dentin exposure. Objective: To describe the best approaches for DH treatment, mainly in cases with no clinically significant loss of tooth structure. Review: Several different approaches (in office and at home) have been p...

Reduction in dentin permeability using mildly supersaturated calcium phosphate solutions.

Treatments that obturate dentin tubules have been used for reducing dentin hypersensitivity. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of multiple treatments with a mildly supersaturated calcium phosphate solution on the hydraulic conductance (Lp) of partially occluded dentin discs in vitro. The treatment solution contained 6.5 mmoll(-1) each of calcium and phosphate, 0.25 mmoll(...

Pro-Argin: A Breakthrough Technology for Dentin Hypersensitivity Treatment

Introduction: Dentin hypersensitivity is a pain arising from exposed dentin, typically in response to clinical, thermal, tactile, evaporative or osmotic stimuli that cannot be explained as arising from any other form of dental pathology. Most authorities agree that Brannstrom’s “Hydrodynamic Theory" of nerve stimulation due to movement of dentinal fluid, best explains dentin hypersensitivity. T...

Effect of propolis gel on the in vitro reduction of dentin permeability

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the capacity of potassium oxalate, fluoride gel and two kinds of propolis gel to reduce the hydraulic conductance of dentin, in vitro. MATERIAL AND METHODS The methodology used for the measurement of hydraulic conductance of dentin in the present study was based on a model proposed in literature. Thirty-six 1-mm-thick dentin discs, obtained from...
